A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a talent management, succession and inclusion expert to join the HEIW Talent, OD & Inclusion team for a 12 month fixed term/secondment opportunity with the potential to become permanent.

The Succession Planning and Talent Management Lead will work to and with the Assistant Director of Talent, OD & Inclusion, Chief Executives, Executives and Assistant Directors, Senior Professional Heads, other Professional Partners to develop the strategic direction and to ensure the sustained delivery of the NHS Wales National Succession Planning Strategy.

Main duties of the job

The Succession Planning and Talent Management Lead will develop and consequently facilitate a managed process in relation to the deployment of leaders within the talent pipeline between NHS Wales organisations and wider public and private sector. Specifically, this includes:

Driving and supporting the strategic approach and the commitment within the NHS Wales to the National Succession Planning Strategy.

Playing a key role in developing the medium and longer term plan for the National Succession Planning Workstream to meet the strategic objectives of the National Succession Planning Strategy, that contributes to, and supports, the overall aims of NHS Wales;

Working closely with the Workstream Sponsors to develop the National Succession Planning Programme, and the specific programme deliverables.

Managing delivery and performance of the overall Programme and including achieving deliverables and targets to ensure the sustained achievement of the National Succession Planning Strategy.

Securing and mobilising resources from the wider NHS and managing the overall National Succession Planning budget.

Building engagement and participation of staff at all levels within NHS Wales.

Developing relationships and engaging meaningfully at all stages across a wide range of staff and stakeholders.

Working closely with internal and external partners and stakeholders to identify and develop opportunities for mutual benefit.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Relevant Masters Degree and equivalent experience or Relevant Masters Degree and Member of professional Workforce and Organisational Development body (CIPD or equivalent professional body)
  • In-depth professional workforce and organisational development knowledge across a wide range of core and specialist areas
  • Extensive knowledge of NHS Wales and current health and health finance policies, priorities and challenges
  • Extensive Experience of working at senior level to deliver organisational development, service change and /or improvement programmes
  • Extensive experience of working with senior professional, clinical and managerial colleagues

Desirable

  • Knowledge of succession planning and leadership development in other UK regions and internationally.

  • Demonstrates sound judgement in the absence of clear guidelines and precedent, seeking advice from more senior manager when appropriate
  • High level of expertise in senior leadership, vision, strategic thinking and planning
  • Ability to provide and receive, convey and present, highly complex, sensitive, and/or contentious information to large groups, anticipating and mitigating communication barriers , and responding openly to questions to ensure full understanding and engagement
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to communicate on highly complex matters and difficult situations
