Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of School for Ophthalmology to join HEIW's Specialty Training Team within the Medicine Directorate.
The Specialty Training team is responsible for supporting with the planning, delivery, and management of 58 postgraduate medical training programmes across the 11 Specialty Schools in Wales.
Main duties of the job
The Head of School for Ophthalmology will work closely with the other nine Heads of Schools along with the administrative and Senior Management team in HEIW to ensure the delivery of high quality training across Wales by sharing best practice, providing strategic leadership, leading initiatives and advising on a range of issues relevant to Ophthalmology.
To achieve this the post holder will be required to liaise with and maintain good working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders across Wales and the UK.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Experience

- Significant experience of working within the health sectors with academic and professional credibility and an outstanding record of achievement.
- Demonstrable leadership, vision, strategic thinking and planning skills
- Experience of developing and implementing strategic plans.
- Experience of making challenging decisions and managing change and strategy in a politically sensitive and complex environment.
- Ability to communicate complex, sensitive and/or contentious information to large multiprofessional teams and groups, responding appropriately to questions to ensure full understanding and engagement.
