Starting salary will be on the first point of Band 6 on a 3 year fixed term contract.

The NHS in Wales is offering two salaried post-graduate training post for a high calibre science graduate who is passionate about science and its role in patient care in the field of imaging with non-ionising radiation.

The successful candidate will follow the scientific training programme (STP) pathway which will lead to HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist.

One successful candidate will be employed in Swansea Bay University Health Board (the MRI Physics training site) and one successful candidate will be based in Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (the ultrasound physics and other non-ionising radiations training site).

Each candidate will spend significant time in both Swansea and Cardiff to complete their training.

This post is fixed term for 3 years to meet the needs of the service.

Swansea - The Department of Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering is mostly based in the Singleton Hospital and operates across the Health Board and beyond, employing about 120 scientists, engineers and technicians. This is a particularly exciting time to train at Swansea with the successful candidate contributing to the development of the new MRI Physics service. MRI scientific services are provided to Health Boards across South Wales and to Swansea University. The department has very strong links with the university with an active established research collaboration.

Cardiff - The Department of Medical Physics is based at the Heath Hospital and provide a wide range of diagnostic imaging and non-imaging investigations, therapies and scientific services.There are 72 clinical scientist, engineers and technicians employed within the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering departments

About us

The successful Swansea candidate will be based at Singleton Hospital in Swansea on the coast, adjacent to Swansea University.and be employed by Swansea Bay University Health Board for the duration of their training. There will also be some travel expected in order to attend other training centres, sites at which services are provided or workshops. The Health Board covers a population of approximately 0.5 million people and also provides tertiary services including cancer across southwest Wales for close to a population of 1 million. The Health Board provides a full range of services across Singleton & Morriston Hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Hospital.

The successful Cardiff candidate will be based in South East Wales at the University Hospital of Wales (UHW) just North of Cardiff City Centre and employed by Cardiff & Vale University Health Board for the duration of their training. There will be some travel expected in order to attend other training centres, sites at which services are provided or workshops.
