The NHS in Wales is offering five salaried post-graduate training programmes in Audiology for high-calibre science graduates who are passionate about science and its role in patient care.

Trainees may be required to rotate through other areas, which will involve secondments at other locations. On completion of training, prospects for permanent employment within Wales are excellent. For individuals with aptitude and commitment there are opportunities to progress through the career pathway to Consultant Clinical Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are motivated to pursue their career within Wales.

Main duties of the job

Audiology involves identifying, assessing and managing hearing and balance function and their associated disorders. Clinical Scientists in Audiology work in patient-facing roles engaging with patients of all ages as part of a team. The primary categories of sub-specialist activity include paediatrics, diagnostics, and rehabilitation (including surgically implantable devices). Audiology is an attractive specialism for those looking to combine use of scientific, technological, clinical, and communication skills. There is a focus on leadership, innovation, development and research to improve patient outcomes. Career prospects are excellent, associated with innovative local and national developments in Audiology in Wales.

Neurosensory Sciences - Audiology

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board - 2 posts, based at Ysbyty Gwynedd Hospital, Wrexham Maelor Hospital and Glan Clwyd Hospital.Our welcoming department has extensive experience in hosting training at STP level, and as a merged North Wales Audiology service there is a supportive trainee network across the three main hospital sites. We provide a comprehensive range of audiology services including the North Wales Auditory Implant Service (cochlear implants and bone-anchored hearing aids) and our Clinical Scientist team is very active in both research and service development. https://bcuhb.nhs.wales/

South Wales - 2 consortium posts -The consortium involves three health boards. Swansea Bay University Health Board https://sbuhb.nhs.wales, Cwm Taf University Health Board https://cwmtafmorgannwg.wales and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board https://abuhb.nhs.wales. Candidates will be employed by their host health board but will receive some training in the other health boards.
