This is an exciting opportunity to shape Pharmacy Technician Education, Training and Development within Wales

Leading on Post Registration training, the post holder will

  • Implement and embed post registration pharmacy technician education and training, in response to the introduction of the new initial education and training programme for Pharmacy Technicians across Wales.
  • Manage the current post-registration pharmacy technician training programmes and the transition to new programmes effectively supporting the roll off the old training programmes

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for

  • The delivery of, and day-to-day operation and running of the post registration pharmacy technician training programmes.
  • The post holder will be the senior point of contact to provide professional advice and guidance on the post registration pharmacy technician training, including processes and procedures to internal and external stakeholders. This may include written communications, delivery of presentations at external meeting and one to one engagement.
  • You will work closely with internal partners and external stakeholders to build and maintain strong working relationships to ensure the continued success and further development of existing pre-registration training programmes and frameworks, and the development and implementation of new ones.
  • You will manage a team of office based and mobile (regional) professionals and operational support staff working within the remit of the programme, in planning and coordinating the team to carry out required tasks, projects or programmes of work.

The post holder must have experience of developing and implementing systems of quality improvement in education and has a sound knowledge and understanding of both face to face and virtual education delivery.

Policy, Planning and Service Development

Delegate, organise and prioritise autonomously to ensure the continuous delivery of the post-registration pharmacy technician training programme.

Work closely with a number of key staff, clinicians, and other stakeholders to ensure the delivery of quality outputs on time and in budget.

Budget holder for specific areas of post holders responsibility, identify the budget and resource requirements necessary to achieve the requirements of the role.

Assist in the delivery of the strategic objectives of the organisation.

The individual will lead on Policy development for the recruitment and delivery of the post-registration pharmacy technician training programmes. Their policy work in this area will also influence wider pharmacy and support staff policy work in regard to quality of education and training and work-based learning.

Communications and stakeholder working

Able to communicate highly complex information effectively at all levels.

Organise and facilitate local and national events to a wide range of stakeholders to support the delivery of the programme of work.

Produce a range of qualitative and quantitative reports for internal and external audiences.

Using a range of well-developed interpersonal skills, the post holder will persuade, motivate, influence, inspire and lead others in relation to quality and service delivery of post-registration pharmacy technician training programmes.

To act as HEIWs lead at performance and contract review meetings with external stakeholders and give feedback on performance, which may be of a sensitive or contentious nature.

Use motivational skills to encourage collaborative working across teams within the organisation, in order to improve services where they may be resistance to change.

Represent HEIW on a UK level on matters relating to post-registration pharmacy technician education, training, and development.

Development of Learning and Development

In collaboration with external stakeholders and the Regional Leads, develop Educational Supervisors, Clinical Supervisors, and assessors to be efficient in their role and graded as outstanding in their performance.

Monitor turnaround times for the authentication and assessment of qualifications by external stakeholders.

Use and Maintain databases accurately to record, HEIW data and data from other sources, regarding the assignment of teaching, marking and supervision.

Ensure that all relevant teacher, tutor, educational supervisor, clinical supervisor, and assessor training is in place, delivered, evaluated, monitored, and reviewed, so any service issues or areas requiring improvement can be identified and rectified quickly.

Analytical Skills

Utilise workshop, study day and exit feedback to continually evaluate programme design and content in partnership with external stakeholders.

Support trainees/staff with the analysis and interpretation of data for use in their projects, providing a range of options in how that data can be presented.

Facilitate collaborative working by identifying common areas for improvement across the organisation and throughout Wales in relation to post-registration pharmacy technician education, training, and development.

The postholder will be responsible for undertaking and collating investigations regarding trainee performance and progress. Investigations may relate to aspects such and lack of appropriate progress, unprofessional behaviour, or plagiarism.

They will be required to analyse information on behaviour, attitude, academic progress, and quality of portfolio evidence submitted from a variety of sources including but not limited to Educational Supervisors and external stakeholders. They will determine the outcome and if the individual is suitable to remain on the training programme, in line with regulator guidance and local policy.

They will frequently deal with a conflict of option on aspects such as Investigation outcomes.

To act as HEIWs lead at performance and contract review meetings of Awarding Bodies and external stakeholders and give feedback on performance.

The postholder will be responsible for the allocation of work-based placements.
