Job summary

The HMEO will work closely with the Senior Medical Examiner Officer (SMEO) team and will assist in the day-to-day operations of the local Hub.

The HMEO will have oversight of, and be responsible for, the Medical Examiner Service 'dashboard' for that hub, and will facilitate the triage and effective throughput of cases referred to the Medical Examiner Service for Wales.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The HMEO will be responsible for day-to-day line management of the MEO team including agile working rotas, weekend and bank holiday rotas, first line approval of annual leave requests and undertaking return to work interviews for short term sickness within the team. The HMEO will also be the contact link for knew MEOs and OSOs into the team, and they will work with the Lead Medical Examiner Officer (LMEO) to ensure appropriate and complete induction into the team. The HMEO will also be responsible for the three and six monthly performance reviews for new staff as well as yearly performance feedback for existing qualified MEOs.

The HMEO will also act as a source of knowledge and expertise for local Medical Examiner Officers and be able to provide them with day-to-day support and guidance on both the clinical and practical aspects of the MEO role.

The HMEO will also work closely with the Business Support Manager (BSM) to ensure that health and safety, risk assessments and facilities management requirements are met within the Hub.

The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills, experience of leading a team, and a comprehensive understanding of the Medical Examiner Service in Wales including processes and flexibility in workflow.
