Job summary

As Senior IT Specialist you will be required to actively manage and lead the ICT support function, ensuring that applications, systems, and hardware perform to the requirements of its users. The postholder will provide in-depth technical specialist advice, support, and training to NWSSP and NHS staff in various areas of Health Informatics and will be responsible for the support of ICT systems for which NWSSP are responsible. This will include mentoring and training of junior staff and ensuring that all work is undertaken in accordance with NWSSP policies, processes, and procedures, following ITIL best practice.

Experience in the following areas would be advantageous:

  • IT Service Management Principals (ITIL)
  • Supporting MS SQL
  • Windows OS
  • MS Active Directory
  • Windows Server
  • Common hardware and software applications
  • Project Management (Prince 2)

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The Senior IT Specialist will be responsible for the implementation and support of NWSSP business application, systems, and hardware. They will have excellent interpersonal, communicative, and analytical skills and will engage with stakeholders at all levels across NWSSP and the NHS. The post holder will be responsible for mentoring and assisting with the professional development of junior staff within the digital services team. They will be responsible for the preparation and maintenance of documentation for digital services to assist with providing operational and user specific support and information. They will gain in depth knowledge and understanding of complex third-party solutions to determine their suitability for NWSSP. Have significant experience of implementing and supporting critical business applications and systems in a technical support role. The post holder will lead business development projects, whilst monitoring the work of junior staff, ensuring that projects adhere to specified requirements and are completed within agreed management timescales, in accordance with NWSSP's IMTP. The post holder will be responsible for the production of quality control and audit reports to ensure appropriate corrective measures are in place to meet requirements of the customer, resolving problems from first principles and past experience. They will analyse requirements, conduct impact analysis, follow change control, as well as produce change documentation.
