Job summary
The Surgical Materials Testing Laboratory (SMTL) are recruiting a QA and Environmental Technician to work from the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend laboratory and IP5 Newport laboratory, as part of the Quality Assurance department.
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the post holder will undertake a UKAS accredited ISO 17025 environmental monitoring service (particulates, active air sampling and microbiological testing) and also a Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) monitoring service (gas & dust testing) to controlled rooms such as Operating Theatres & Sterile Services IAP rooms within NHS facilities across Wales on a regular basis, and potentially to other NHS and commercial clients outside Wales if required.
The post holder will also be expected to assist the Quality Assurance Manager by participating in internal auditing of the Quality Management System, liaise with other departments on quality issues and expected to maintain and review QMS documentation.
The successful applicant should have knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a Quality Department in an ISO 17025 testing laboratory or GMP environment.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
Assist with providing a UKAS accredited environmental monitoring service, complying with ISO 17025, to NHS and commercial clients throughout Wales and further afield, to enable the client to comply with relevant Pharmaceutical, British, European or International standards. This can include microbiological and air particle monitoring of Pharmacy aseptic suites, Operating Theatres and Sterile Services packing rooms all over Wales on a regular basis, and further afield.
Assist the Quality Manager and provide support for the Quality Management System for SMTL in line with BS EN ISO 17025 or other relevant QMS standards.
To assist the Quality Manager with QMS documentation, Test Method and Standard Operating Procedure reviews.
Assist the Quality Manager by participating in internal auditing of the Quality Management System within the Surgical Materials Testing Laboratory and liaise on non-compliances issues with other departments.
Responsible for stock control of all necessary environmental monitoring consumables & equipment, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and monitored appropriately.
To accurately maintain written and computerised records of all testing in accordance with the laboratory's accreditation and quality assurance systems, including updating of appropriate databases.
To prepare technical reports detailing the results of laboratory testing and environmental monitoring.

- Knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a Quality department in an ISO 17025 laboratory or GMP environment.
Desirable
- Have theoretical knowledge of medical device testing to ISO 17025 and of the principles and theory underlying medical-device environmental monitoring (such as clean room testing)
- Knowledge of current national and international standards relevant to clean room monitoring and testing of medical devices
