Job summary
The post holder will provide Procurement Services with the nutrition expertise and be responsible for identifying nutrition specifications required for products on Welsh contract. This involves reviewing the range of food products within the responsibility of NWSSP Procurement team and setting nutrition specifications with regard to the requirements of the All Wales Nutrition and Catering Standards framework.Consideration of the need for products suitable for special and therapeutic diets will be expected. The post holder will support the Head of Food Procurement and the lead dietitian for procurement to communicate with key professionals and design systems for ensuring processes that are transparent and consistent.The post holder will play a key role in improved nutritional standards of patient care through their responsibility to ensure use of food products of known nutritional value which represent value for money.
The post holder will be responsible for undertaking nutritional analysis of recipes and uploading all relevant information on recipes, products and allergens to the All Wales Menu Framework website and will support the development and progression towards sharing resources in Wales around recipe and menu development.This must be achieved within legislation and regulation associated with public sector procurement.
Main duties of the job
To work as a member of the Procurement team and be responsible for ensuring that food procured by the NHS in Wales complies with the All Wales Nutrition and Catering Standards for Food and Fluid for Hospital Inpatients.This will include:-
- Working autonomously.
- Assist and communicate with colleagues in Health Boards in Wales.
- Competency in the use of Information Technology relating to relevant nutritional analysis programmes.
- Updating and reviewing the All Wales Menu database and website.
- Providing information to support those managing change to alternative products.
- To collate relevant information and provide reports to support the lead dietitian for procurement to provide the All Wales Foodstuffs Commodity Advisory group with professional advice and expertise as required.
- Organise product trials and evaluation that are commissioned by procurement services to enable review by a range of professional colleagues,
- To attend meetings and take detailed minutes from meetings.
- Monitoring to ensure contractors maintain agreed product specification.
- To support the Lead Procurement Dietitian in day to day activities. Such as, assisting with planning, preparation and delivering nutrition education workshops for procurement staff and caterers on nutritional aspect of the All Wales menu framework and food procurement.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
