Job summary

We have a great opportunity for a User-Centred Design Apprentice, working alongside and with the supervision of established User-Centred Design professionals to demonstrate aptitude, potential and an understanding of the roles within the User-Centred Design (UCD) community (including, User Researcher, Content Designer, Service Designer, Graphic Designer, and Interaction Designer).

As a User-Centred Design Apprentice you will be given the opportunity to assist colleagues in the UCD community with the provision of high-quality research, design, and testing to support the delivery of usable products and service to users.

The right candidate will be able to explain how user-centred practices are used to build services and products that adapt to changing user behaviour and needs.

The candidate will understand the work of others and the importance of team dynamics, collaboration and feedback. They will also demonstrate an awareness of the need to translate technical concepts into non-technical language as well as awareness of Agile methodology and the ways to apply the principles in practice.

Main duties of the job

  • Support, shadow, observe and assist graphic designers, user researchers, content designers, interaction designers and service designers in the execution of their work.

  • In the field of graphic design, demonstrate engagement with trends in design and awareness of the value of evidence-based design, and that design is a process.

  • In the field of user research, show an awareness of the need for careful analysis of research data to produce clear findings, and the diversity of users and the need to make all products and services usable and accessible for everyone.

  • In the field of interaction design, show an awareness of prototyping products and service as part of the design process and be able to explain what prototyping is and why and when to use it.

  • In the field of service design, show an awareness of design, technology and data principles and that digital products and services are made up of many elements - some that users can see and some behind the scenes.

  • In the field of content design, show an awareness of style standards and perform basic standard checks and copy edits.

Fixed term for 4 years to meet the needs of the service
