Job summary

The Senior Communications Officer will work with the Head of Strategic Communications and Engagement to develop, deliver and evaluate communications activities that support the objectives of the Digital Medicines Transformation Portfolio (DMTP) and effectively engages stakeholders with its vision and aims.

This post sits within the Digital Medicines Transformation Portfolio Communications Team working alongside external and project communications to ensure overall consistency as well as drawing on each other's knowledge and expertise. The Senior Communications Officer will be responsible for the effective delivery of information and communications.

The role is wide ranging, encompassing the timely co-ordination of communications through a range of channels to ensure ease of access, clarity and consistency. DMTP is a large, ambitious and exciting and national Portfolio of work with four programmes and projects. Communications plays a vital role in managing its development, delivering the key messages and understanding the impact and aims.

The postholders expert knowledge of the communications field will allow him or her to work closely with each area of the Portfolio, to support, propose and develop changes to communication policies and communication plans, to deliver joined-up and proactive communications and to respond to difficult situations

Main duties of the job

Ensure key stakeholders understand, and are engaged with, DMTP objectives, vision, values and culture. Develop and manage social media channels and content. Provide internal communications services that support the cultural development and performance of staff to meet objectives. Develop an awareness and understanding of the internal communications needs of DMTP staff. Work with senior colleagues to define and agree communications objectives. Research and make recommendations on new and emerging trends. Develop mechanisms to measure stakeholder engagement. Work with the DMTP senior management team to identify and support change initiatives and support internal and external events. Influence employee behaviour and corporate culture, as well as reinforce the pride in working for DHCW and NHS Wales. Provide advice to senior colleagues on communications issues with the aim of providing effective two-way communications. Manage and develop internal communications channels that support collaborative working across directorates and office locations. Contribute to maintenance of DMTP content on DHCW websites. Work with senior colleagues to develop key messages that reflect organisational objectives. Manage internal focus groups and qualitative analysis. Create and utilise networks of contacts internally and externally. Contribute to external communications when required.
