Job summary
NHS Wales has formally adopted HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource (FHIR v4) standard specification as a foundational standard. Adoption of FHIR aligns with NHS Wales strategic partnerships across the UK. A UK-wide collaborative project has already been established with full participation from Wales to develop a common set of FHIR profiles for use across the UK, known as the HL7 FHIR UK Core specification.
The FHIR Standards Development and Implementation Service Owner will play a key role in ensuring that FHIR standards are effectively implemented and utilized to achieve interoperability and improve healthcare data exchange at a national level.
NHS Wales is working collaboratively with the development of UK Core which will underpin the FHIR profiles used throughout England and the devolved nations.
Main duties of the job
Oversee the development of FHIR standards for NHS Wales and that these standards are effectively implemented and utilized to achieve interoperability and improve healthcare data exchange at a national level.
Ensure that the standards developed are accurately published within agreed timescales and resource constraints and that they are maintained.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define the strategic approach to implementing FHIR standards. This involves Interpreting national policy and guidance within NHS Wales and aligning FHIR standards to enable and support a Healthier Wales
Lead NHS Wales engagement with other organisations and standards groups, including healthcare providers, other NHS national organisations, government agencies, standards development organizations, and technology vendors, to ensure alignment and coordination in implementing FHIR standards.
Engage with healthcare IT vendors to promote the adoption of FHIR standards in their products and services.
Maintain a balanced view of requirements and demands and ensure a strong focus on delivery.
Ensure that FHIR standards build on international and UK national standards for FHIR, while reflecting NHS Wales Data Standards.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

- Educated to masters level or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in managing mutli disciplinary teams, delivering different products
- Service or product ownership training
- Broad knowledge across the range of Interoperability Healthcare Technologies, such as HL7 (Health Level 7).
