Job summary

  • The post holder will take a lead role in the administration, development and maintenance of Business Intelligence Applications by ensuring system integrity, controls, interfaces, subsystems, BI tools and all reporting requirements are properly managed.
  • The post holder will also review current business processes and provide recommendations for improvements to key stakeholders using current technologies available.

Main duties of the job

  • to be responsible for the integrity, administration, development and support of all business intelligence applications in Finance and other departments in the organization.
  • to plan and prioritise a wide ranging annual work plan, for example developing timetables and planning resources for data acquisition, data gathering, process mapping, BI development, and testing cycles; liaising with a variety of colleagues from different directorates, other organisations and stakeholders to ensure reporting requirements are met and systems are kept up to date
  • to be proactive in identifying potential system and reporting requirements and provide advice on the most appropriate way to approach those developments, including process automation.
  • to deliver improvements to end users from multiple work streams, by developing and designing bespoke solutions through a range of applications and software, including robotics, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
  • to conduct research on different technologies in the field of planning, forecasting, analytics and automation.
  • to represent the Finance department as and when required to different All Wales group

Job responsibilities

  • To analyse highly complex financial and system data prior to presenting to stakeholders, exercising judgement in the way that the data is delivered to support external and internal reporting.
  • To identify, resolve and communicate any system errors that may affect the integrity of the information.
  • Conduct data gathering, process mapping and testing cycles are completed within the strict required timescales
  • Schedule regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss feedback, issues and service improvement requirements
  • Ensure routine financial and systems deadlines are met, to ensure that there is no adverse impact on finance colleagues, budget holders, Welsh Government and Audit
  • Undertake complex detailed reviews of highly complex costing information and present reports to managers in ways that are likely to be influential in management decisions on change
  • Assist in the roll out of service costing and service line reporting products, identifying ways of making complex financial information meaningful to service managers in their own areas.
  • Support the development of organizational performance reporting requirements by having a standardized KPI dashboard
  • To continually review current work practises, making recommendations to others regarding improvements e.g. updating/developing systems and processes within the team.

Qualifications and/or Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to post-graduate level or equivalent knowledge or experience in a financial, informatics or systems environment.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, education and training

Desirable

  • AAT (level 4) or equivalent business degree.

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working in the NHS, acquiring specialist knowledge relating to a financial, informatics or systems environment.

Desirable

  • Experience in assisting with the delivery of organizational and service change.
  • Able to demonstrate use of BI tools (Qlikview, Qliksense or PowerBI) or willingness to learn data models and databases.

Skills and Attributes

  • Excellent communication skills required to deal with complex information.
  • Ability to focus on accuracy when analysing data and responding to queries, sometimes without notice.
