Job summary

As part of its responsibilities for projects within NHS Wales, DHCW develops and maintains the project test strategy in alignment with operational requirements and specifications. The goal is to ensure that the application meets the expectations of users and clinicians. Additionally, DHCW provides expert guidance and assistance on software testing to various areas of health informatics within the NHS. All testing work is carried out in compliance with the Digital Health Care Wales Test Framework's policies, processes, and procedures. As a Lead Test Analyst, you will be expected to test a series of APIs to verify that the API fulfils its expected functionality, security, performance, and reliability.

This post is fixed term/secondment until 31/03/2025 to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

To test a series of APIs to verify that the API fulfils its expected functionality, security, performance, and reliability.

To develop and maintain the project test strategy on projects for which DHCW is responsible in accordance with specifications and operational requirements of NHS Wales.

To ensure that the application performs to the requirements of its users and clinicians.

To provide specialist advice and support on software testing to the NHS in various areas of health informatics.

All testing work is undertaken in accordance with the policies, processes and procedures as described by the Digital Health Wales Test Framework.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential

  • Master's level in information and IT related subject or equivalent experience
  • Must have in-depth knowledge and demonstrable expertise in Microsoft Visual Studio Team System (Team Edition) (aka Dev Ops) and Microsoft Visual Studio Team System Web Access
  • Able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of testing processes and an understanding of how they fit within an overall application and development project lifecycle
  • An excellent knowledge of defect management and structured approaches to resolution of issues.
  • Knowledge of different test methodologies. For example, white box and black box.
  • Proven knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Tools and Test management tools. For example, Quality Centre

Desirable

  • Relevant testing qualification, for example ISTQB.
  • CCTA PRINCE 2 practitioner examination pass or equivalent qualification or experience.
  • Further specialist postgraduate knowledge or experience.

Experience

  • Extensive experience of managing testing in highly complex technology-based projects
  • Proven experience in the analysis of business requirements and the production of test plans, strategies, test reports and traceability matrices for complex technical environments.
  • Proven record in the field of Application Development and Lifecycle Management.
  • Experience in supervising an IT Test team
  • Excellent understanding and record of translating business and functional requirements into specialist test plans and traceability matrices
  • Demonstrate a track record of delivering successful test projects.
  • Able to read and comprehend clinical business requirements and high-level design deliverables well enough to commission and write detailed test cases
  • Proven ability to organise own work and the work of other testing professionals effectively
