The Real Clinic, an expanding day case hospital in Battersea, is looking to recruit an Ophthalmic scrub nurse.

The successful applicant will be registered with the NMC and will have experience as an independent scrub nurse for ophthalmic procedures including cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.
Job role responsibilities
- Working alongside ophthalmologists as part of our theatre team.
- Daily Set up of operating theatre
- Lead the ophthalmic scrub team
- To have eagerness and capacity for learning and personal development as well as assisting in the development of other team members.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- To accept personal accountability for own practice as a Registered Nurse and to always work within the NMC code of conduct.
- To help the clinic manager with ordering and stock management for ophthalmology
Clinical Safety
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care given to patient during the perioperative period.
- Ensure that all clinical SOPs for theatres are adhered to and to be able to escalate if necessary.
- Undertake the role of circulating and scrub nurse for ophthalmic surgical procedures including cataract and VR procedures
- Independently admit and discharge patients whilst also working with the multidisciplinary team.
- Prepare and safely use the complex ophthalmic equipment in line with manufacturers advice.
- To help with arranging the upkeep and servicing of ophthalmic equipment
- To demonstrate exceptional clinical practice in driving high standards of care
- Take responsibility for safety checks of machines by performing calibration and be able to recognise any issues and trouble shoot them independently or with the help of an external lengineer
Clinical Leadership
- Provide clinical leadership and support to all staff in promoting effective teamwork.
- To maintain competence in the essential skills required for delivering care within the unit.
- To be able to take charge of the ophthalmic theatre
- To support the clinical Manager in the delivery of clinical governance, risk assessment and quality assurance initiatives.
Personal and professional development
- Evaluate personal performance and development, ensuring clinical and technical skills and knowledge is updated and enhanced.
- Maintain up to date knowledge within the Ophthalmology field.
- Participate in appraisal and complete all mandatory training.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential -
- Registered Nurse
- Ophthalmic scrub experience at independent level.
- Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable -
- Hold an ILS Certificate or be prepared to attend training to hold an ILS certificate
EXPERIENCE
Essential -
- Recent relevant perioperative experience
- Ability to scrub for ophthalmic procedures
- Demonstrate an awareness of delivering compassionate and patient centred care
Desirable -
- Experience of leading a team
