Main duties of the job

In this role, you will work as an integral member of the Estates, Facilities and Health & Safety team to provide specialist advice, guidance and training regarding health and safety within the business, to ensure the highest possible standards for both patient and employee safety. Youwill assist in developing, managing and monitoring a Health & Safety strategy which ensures that they are fully aware of their responsibilities in demonstrating compliance with Health & Safety legislation. The post holder will assist with the identification, recording, evaluation and mitigation of risks arising from non-compliance with statutory legislation relating to the management of health & safety within the organisation

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Ensure that all Health and Safety policies and practices are proportionate, realistic, in place and working effectively to ensure DHU and its employees are safe
  • Identify health and safety training requirements and support delivery of training as required
  • Assist with the development and implementation of organisational wide health & safety improvement plans
  • Work with third party partners such as HSE, CQC and ICB to ensure inspection requirements are met
  • Carry out Display Screen Equipment assessments and recommend appropriate control measures to enable users to work with equipment comfortably and comply with The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992
  • Where appropriate complete and regularly review non-clinical risk assessments and assist with the review of risk assessments relating to all business elements
  • Ensure that all accidents are thoroughly investigated, reporting to senior management on the outcomes
  • Carry out Face Fit reviews using the DHU Portacounts on both clinical and non-clinical DHU staff as part of a Team of Face Fit reviewers
  • Ensure that any RIDDOR reportable incidents are done in a timely manner
  • Provide support to line managers to investigate non-clinical incidents
  • Keep up to date with relevant changes to legislation and report through to senior management if there is a potential business impact

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
  • Good basic education (GCSE level minimum)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health & safety legislation codes of practice, standards and any other regulatory requirements with the ability to interpret and advise on their implications
  • Risk management skills
  • Experience of providing health and safety services in the NHS, healthcare sector or in a large complex organisation (min 5 years)
  • Experience of implementing safety management principles in a large and complex organisation
