What your typical day looks like:

  • To deputise for the Company Secretary as required for those elements of the function specific to this job description.
  • To organise and manage meetings and events on behalf of the Chair and Non-Executive Directors, including inviting and liaising with attendees, sourcing venues, drafting the agenda, and distributing papers.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of changes in the NHS and local health system to assist in determining priorities for the Chief Executive, Chair / Board.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of changes in regulation and legislation specific to the sector and legal entities to determine priorities for the Chief Executive, Chair / Board. This is also essential knowledge to be utilised when supporting the Chair of Committees and boards, and for minute taking.
  • Ensure that board meetings are held in accordance with statute, legislation and DHUs codes, policies, and best practice, and that there are appropriate arrangements in place to administer the meetings and record the business transacted.
  • Ensure that board committees and subgroup meetings are held in accordance with DHUs policies and best practice and that there are appropriate arrangements in place to administer the meetings and record the business transacted.
  • Assist with administrative support for new directors e.g., arranging induction programmes.

  • CGI Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme (commenced, or part or fully qualified) or equivalent qualification OR equivalent work-based experience.
  • Experience with supporting or working with those at a senior level for 2 years or more.
  • Experience relevant to governance, regulatory, company secretarial or compliance work.
  • A diplomatic approach and the confidence to provide support to high-profile company staff and board members.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • A passion for corporate governance
