Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide
professional leadership to the Corporate Clinical Practice & Development
Lead, Practice Development Team, and be a professional link within the clinical
services to ensure professional and practice development is consistent across
DHU.
They will support the Executive
Medical Director and Executive Director of Nursing & Quality and Deputy
Director of Nursing & Quality in developing and implementing clinical
excellence to improve the patient experience; provide clinical leadership and
support within medical and nursing teams.
The role will be integral to
ensuring excellent communication with the senior nursing and AHP staff across
DHU as well as with external agencies and approved Education Institutes.
Liaising with the senior nursing/AHP and other relevant teams, the post holder
will ensure the workforce development and education agendas are aligned and
follow local and national guidance.

Job responsibilities
- The post holder is responsible for providing professional expertise relating to clinical practice development throughout all areas of DHU.
- Define current processes, facilitate discussions, and advise colleagues as to how best practice might be adopted.
- Provide professional leadership and management to the corporate lead for Corporate Clinical Practice & Development Lead, Practice Development Team, and professional link within the clinical services in UEC, UTCs, Primary Care and 111.
- To provide high profile leadership and support to nursing and AHP groups to ensure education and governance requirements are met and sustained in a standardised way across DHU.
- The post holder will facilitate standardisation of Clinical /Advanced practice roles across DHU determining an organisation wide training programme for clinical excellence in conjunction with local HEIs.
- Identify challenges that may accompany implementation of the Clinical /Advanced roles and direct or influence the necessary measures to overcome them.
- Provide clinical leadership for non-medical prescribing throughout the organisation.
- Provide support and guidance to the clinical services in developing plans for their non-medical workforce.
- Support the development of skills and competencies within the non-medical workforce to include, but not exclusively, for e.g. prescribing pharmacist.
- Develop a clinical governance structure to ensure learning and quality improvement are embedded.
- The post holder will work clinically for a proportion of their time, minimum 1 day a week.
- The post holder will increase DHUs capability to support and develop the clinical workforce through identifying the existing gaps and what is required to close them using available resource for e.g. Governance maturity matrix.
- Support with the ongoing Quality Assurance Monitoring process and other quality assurance agenda.
- Lead on setting the professional objectives for the clinical practice development including working collaboratively with the Corporate Clinical Practice & Development Lead and administrator.
- They will be responsible for supporting role development and will act as a point of contact for advice and expertise on all matters relating to professional nursing and AHP issues with regards to education, working across all areas of the organisation.
- Provide evidence based professional guidance; effective and strong leadership; advice and supervision to teams as required.
- To lead on the education, training & development requirements of the Nursing & AHP workforce both internally and negotiated with external providers, the ICS and NHSE/I.
- Representing the professional & practice development agenda, as a senior member of DHUs Corporate Nursing & Quality team at both externally and internal stakeholder meeting.
- To develop, facilitate and lead on Nursing/AHP research linking with DHUs Quality Improvement committee.
- Provide leadership for the Quality walkarounds, related to clinical education, CQC preparedness on behalf of the Dep Director of Nursing and Quality, including participating in reviews and maintaining relevant databases as appropriate.
- The nature of the role is an evolving one to support and deputise where appropriate for the Deputy Director of Nursing and Quality for clinical practice education meetings. This role depends on contracts and the service needs within DHU Healthcare CIC.

- NMC Registered nurse OR HCPC Registered Paramedic OR Physiotherapist OR ODP
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice
- Significant experience in Emergency/Urgent Care setting at a senior ACP level
- Already working in an autonomous / advanced clinical practice setting at a consultant practitioner level
- PhD or willing to undertake in the future.
- Non-medical prescriber (v300)
- Clear and continued evidence of CPD
- Teaching/assessing in practice qualification.
- ALS provider
- ALS instructor
- EPALS/APLS/
