Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for driving Company vehicles within DHU Healthcare and will ensure the continuing provision of first class support of the medical services of the Company. The Driver will be part of a multi-professional/skilled team including Clinicians and Support Staff providing accessible services to the population.

A commitment to a quality service and excellence in all that DHU Healthcare undertakes are integral to the role and the development of the service.

Main duties of the job

  • To ensure that the service maintains operational efficiency at all times by striving to achieve the quality standards appropriate to DHU Health Care CIC.
  • To support development of strategic projects and changes to support the growth of the company.
  • Identify and make recommendations to the Service Delivery Manager of any efficiency that could be made within the provision of service to facilitate quality improvement within the organisation.
  • Deal appropriately with instructions and queries.

Job responsibilities

Transport Department

  • Accurately complete full vehicle checks at the start of every shift, immediately reporting and logging any defects, wherever possible ensuring vehicles are in an operational condition at all times i.e. bulb replacement.
  • Ensure appropriately stocked clinician bags/boxes are taken on home visits and kept in accordance with the security policy.
  • Maintain radio/mobile phone contact with base at all times for operational and security reasons, ensuring your destination is known at all times.
  • Transport Clinicians to required destination, from information received from the Dispatch Controller (DC), in a timely, safe manner, within the law.
  • Perform any administrative tasks supporting the transport function, as required.
  • Ensure you are available for your allocated sessions and inform the Service Delivery Manager of any problems immediately as you become aware.
  • Assist in the formulation of bespoke transport policies, standards and procedures for DHU when requested.
  • Seek continuous improvement in transport performance and use of vehicles and notify the Service Delivery Manager of suggestions for performance improvement.
  • Participate in regular risk assessments within the transport department, to an agreed time schedule, and take the appropriate action to ensure safe systems and areas of work
  • Participate fully in transport accident investigation in association with the Transport and Site Services Manager, when required, in a timely manner.
  • Keep informed of new Transport legislation introduced into the Company and ensure DHU compliance with new regulations, in a timely manner.
  • Promote of a positive health and safety culture throughout the transport department
  • Attend for mandatory health and eye checks whenever required/requested and immediately notify the Service
  • Delivery Manager of any health concerns that may affect your ability to perform your duties.
  • Produce your driving license upon request for annual checks and report any driving convictions to the Service Delivery Manager immediately.
  • Attend all mandatory training as laid down by the company.
  • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness, general maintenance and associated paperwork of Company vehicles, whilst ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy and adhere to the insurance and legal requirements at all times.

General duties

  • Adhere to all procedures, protocols and other relevant memorandum as appropriate
  • Assist in Training new members of staff within the department to ensure the maintenance of a high quality service, when required
  • Attend training and meetings as and when required to do so by Management
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to all issues concerned within the service and adhere to the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1984
  • Provide cover for sickness, bank holidays, annual leave, etc for any associated member of staff, as requested by Management
  • Adhere to Health and Safety Policy
  • Communicate outstanding issues to your Manager or duty supervisors before going off duty. In relation to serious issues this must be reported to the Operations Manager.
  • Notify the appropriate line Manager/s or Duty Supervisor immediately of any circumstances, which may affect the provision of a high quality service.
  • Maintain and ensure maintenance of a tidy work environment at all times
  • Deal with matters raised under the complaints procedure/protocol and using the procedure/protocol when answering queries and complying with requests from the Complaints Manager for statements and information requests within the specified timeframe i.e. 5 days for statements.
  • Answering all calls in a timely, efficient and courteous manner
  • Keep the Service Delivery Manager fully informed of all problems and developments within the transport area.
  • Greeting patients and entering details onto computer system as and when required.
  • Keeping our patients, the public and ourselves safe and well is part of every role in DHU. To maintain high levels of safety all staff are encouraged to openly report incidents and any risk identified in Datix or where not possible to use
  • Datix to report through the Duty Supervisor Shift report.
