Main duties of the job

In all our services, we have achieved CQC good in all areas.

A bit about our GP surgeries

We have almost 15,000 patients in our 2 GP surgeries across 3 sites in Leicester City. These are historically GP surgeries which have struggled. With our expertise these GP surgeries are rapidly improving, and this has been recognised by CQC and our positive NHS Choices feedback.

We have ambitious plans for our GP surgeries. We are investing in our clinical workforce with a multidisciplinary team to include:

  • Upskilled Health Care Assistants and nursing team
  • Advanced Clinical Practitioners
  • First Contact physiotherapists
  • Pharmacists

DHU Urgent Care (LLR) CIC is a non-profit making provider of urgent care and out of hours services within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR), a population of just over one million. This role of Salaried GP is based in our Leicester City Centre Practices. We have almost 15,000 patients in our 2 GP surgeries across 3 sites in Leicester City.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability

You will work in our GP practices covering a diverse population with significant health needs. The work will include:

Routine and urgent acute appointments

Managing patients with long term conditions and at end of life, including care planning

Visiting patients at home if appropriate

Supporting on call arrangements to ensure medical cover is available throughout the day

Undertaking paperwork, including pathology results, prescriptions and hospital letters

Participate in audits and multidisciplinary team meetings

There may also be the opportunity for you to deliver enhanced services such as minor surgery, anti-coagulation initiation and monitoring and substance misuse. We will support your training, where required, to deliver these services if there is a need for them.

In general the post holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working in Primary / Urgent Care, such as:

Keep contemporaneous, accurate and legible records of all patient contacts and contribute to electronic data recording and audit as directed by the service

Prescribe, issue prescription and treatments according to agreed protocols and local guidance, within scope of competence.

Contribute to evaluation / audit, significant event reporting and clinical standard setting within the service

Develop and encourage positive working relationships with local GP Practices, housing, social work, voluntary services, drug and alcohol, mental health, dental, secondary care and other appropriate services

Pursue continuing professional and personal development. Eight days study leave per year will be provided, pro rata, for CPD following discussion with the Clinical Director during the appraisal process. The post holders line manager must approve all study leave.

Significant event analysis will be undertaken with the Clinical Director or nominated deputy. The Clinical / Medical Director or nominated deputy will provide the appropriate clinical support as requested /required.

Participate in operational and strategic planning for the development of DHU Urgent Care (LLR) CIC division and / or Leicester City Health where appropriate

Participate in development activity and projects within the DHU Urgent Care (LLR) CIC division and / or Leicester City Health including development / review of protocols, documentation, clinical governance, audit activity, training and research

Maintains GMC registration and license to practice

Ensure inclusion on a local Performers List

GOVERNANCE ARRANGEMENTS

To take part in the medical response to major incidents as required

To share responsibility for ensuring the most effective use of resources

Participate in the integrated governance requirements within the work of the organisation
