Job summary
At NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), you'll help keep vital blood and tissue supplies moving safely to hospitals when patients need them most. As a Development Hospital Services Team Leader, you'll support the day-to-day running of our Hospital Services team, making sure products are validated, stored, issued and delivered to the right standard, every time. You'll guide and support colleagues, solve issues quickly, and work with hospitals and partners to keep the supply chain flowing. This is a development role, so you'll also build your leadership skills and take on increasing responsibility as you grow towards a Band 6 Team Leader post.
Main duties of the job
- Help your team deliver safe, accurate validation, storage, issue and distribution of blood components and tissues, so hospitals can treat patients without delay.
- Use SOPs and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) to keep quality and compliance at the centre of every decision.
- Support colleagues with technical guidance, coaching and day-to-day coordination, helping everyone learn and work confidently.
- Work with hospital customers to resolve enquiries and complaints, explaining complex information clearly and calmly.
- Manage stock rotation and movement across sites to reduce wastage and maintain availability, including emergency and specialist requests.
- Investigate and report discrepancies, customer issues and quality events, contributing to continuous improvement and root cause analysis.
- Operate, supervise and help maintain key equipment (including irradiators where required), acting quickly to protect temperature-controlled products.
- Coordinate training, induction and day-to-day support for new starters, helping them progress and meet required standards.
