Job summary
As a senior scientist with specialised Transfusion Microbiology knowledge and scope of practice you will be working as part of a scientific and clinical team, including doctors, nurses and other health care professionals and the role you perform will directly contribute to saving and improving patients lives. There are many opportunities for career advancement within NHSBT. With experience and training you may progress to managing a section of the laboratory, right through to lead scientist with responsibility for the entire laboratory service. You may use your knowledge to specialise in an area vital to the operation of a modern reference service such as Quality Control, training and education, or research and development. You will have opportunity to learn from and network with a wide variety of colleagues in various fields both at national and international level. We will provide you with an extensive induction and training programme and ongoing development to support you in your role and achieving your career ambitions.
Main duties of the job
You will work with clinical colleagues and service users within the organisation and with external stakeholders to improve and develop Virology reference and screening services. You will take a leading role in the development and maintenance of scientific and technical expertise within the laboratory being on hand to deal with queries from other departments, medical staff or visitors You will manage, together with other Seniors, the day to day activities of the Virology Laboratory and take responsibility for the standard of work and the quality of the results produced You will train Biomedical Scientists and Healthcare Technical staff and clinicians and act as a mentor. You will support the departmental Quality Manager in developing and maintaining the Quality Management System within the laboratory
