Technology Services Manager

Job summary

Our IT helps us manage donations safely through the entire supply chain, from donation through to manufacturing, processing and transfusion/transplantation. Were constantly seeking new ways to increase productivity and efficiency, and that means rethinking the way we use IT to deliver a better experience for donors, hospital customers, partners and staff.

Over the next few years, well be working towards a simplified set of IT services, hosted in the cloud and developed iteratively to ensure they meet our changing needs now and in the future. Your IT Services expertise will be critical to making this happen. Focusing primarily in the area of specialist infrastructure youll oversee both technical and service issues, ensuring we perform in line with business needs.

Reporting directly to the Head of Technology Services, you will gain exposure at senior levels and be expected to navigate across-Directorate teams.

The successful candidate will be based at one of the following 5 centres which are Barnsley, Cambridge, Colindale, Bristol Filton, and Liverpool, which serve as our main IT hubs. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will provide leadership and accountability for key Specialist Application Services and Infrastructure technologies within DDTS Product Centres as well as the Blood Tech Modernisation Programme. In this role you will be required to:

• Contribute to and undertake design and engineering for all areas of technology in Application Delivery Infrastructure, Virtualisation & Wintel Platforms & Cloud technologies including

1. oCitrix
2. oVMWare / Wintel
3. oCloud hosting including IaaS, SaaS and PaaS
4. oApplication Deployment tools such as Microsoft Azure DevOps, Terraform etc.

• Contribute towards the overall design and strategic direction for the Application Delivery technologies
• Manage a team of Technologists between the Technology Services Application Delivery team and the BTM Platforms team ensuring policy, processes, systems, people and skills required to design, develop, deliver and improve technology services meet NHSBT needs now and in the future
• Working between the BTM/Product Centre/Technology Services Leadership teams to ensure an end state application infrastructure architecture remains in place.
• Ensure necessary resourcing is planned with Project/Application Release/BAU workstream leads and resources are in place to support delivery when required

As a key role within the Technology Services as well as the Blood Tech Modernisation Programme you will be expected to build good relationships with others within the leadership teams to deliver the objectives.
