Job summary

The role of Head of Service Delivery, Organ Donation & Nursing is a diverse and multi-faceted post that requires a high level of attention to detail, experience, and expertise. The objectives of the role positively impact on all stages of the donation process and ultimately affect the number of lifesaving transplants.

You will act as an essential part of the management team, and as an individual autonomous practitioner leading and facilitating discrete pieces of work to support delivery of the donation service. Working closely with a wide mix of internal and external stakeholders and different departments within NHSBT, the role is integral to OTDTs change programme and as such is a satisfying and rewarding role.

Please be advised that this is a hybrid role. The successful candidate may be based at on one of our main centres in the UK, by agreement.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be a key member of the Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation(OTDT) Leadership Team and have accountability for leading specific business initiatives arising from the Organ Donation and Transplantation 2030: Meeting the Need Strategy and clinical, legislative, DH or policy initiatives which support the efficient delivery of the Organ Donation Service in the UK. Your responsibilities include:-

  • Interpretation and analysis of initiatives or policy/legislation changes to understand their impact on Organ Donation Services, making recommendations for endorsement by the Head of Operations and Assistant Director to take through to formal implementation of the service changes across the Organ Donation Service for the UK.
  • Operational Management for national contracts and key performance management information as well as supporting communication and engagement both internally and across the NHS.
  • Management and performance of the Service Delivery Nurse Specialist, Business Support Assistant, other posts to support attainment of the strategic objectives
  • Providing specialised advice concerning the care, treatment of donors to Managers within the Clinical Service of Organ Donation and acting as an advisory specialist expert to UK national project and other Advisory Groups

You will be required to participate in a 24 hour, 365 days on call rota and maintain clinical credibility. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, working irregular hours.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (which must be maintained) as Registered Nurse Adult
  • Relevant post graduate degree or equivalent qualification in a health or related field OR job-related experience equivalent to post graduate degree level.
  • Post graduate experience in the field of critical care.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
  • Possession of a valid driving licence, allowing you to drive in the UK

Experience

  • High level of knowledge of current issues, research and developments within the sphere of Organ Donation supporting & maintaining the processes which underpin it
  • Ability to produce and interpret business and clinical initiatives, policy and legislation through to development of clear strategies leading to implementation and Organ Donation Service Development and Improvement
  • Experience of staff management to include recruitment, training, performance management, conduct and absence issues.
  • Experience of analytical skills to lead and support the implementation of new and changing initiatives
