Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our friendly team in the Stem Cells and Immunotherapies (SCI) laboratory in Southampton. Our work in SCI is central to the provision and improvement of haemopoietic stem cell transplants. It enables us to support almost half of those carried out in England each year through a network of GMP grade laboratories. Working with academic partners in Centres of Excellence, we aim to be at the forefront of clinical improvements related to these transplants and to use our expertise in GMP, quality and regulatory matters to promote other areas of research. You will be working as part of a team to process, test and store the peripheral blood stem cells, donor lymphocytes and bone marrow for patients undergoing stem cell transplantation. A good team player, youll be capable of motivating both yourself and others as you tackle a wide variety of tasks. We are looking for a Health Professions Council (HPC) registered Biomedical Scientist who is looking to develop expertise in transplantation science. This is a full time role, 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, working 7.5 hours daily between 08:45 and 18:15 depending on start/end time (early or late). You would also be required to participate in the 24 hour on call rota which requires attendance on evenings and weekends; and would receive additional payment for these hours.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to perform, analyse, record and interpret a wide range of laboratory investigations and technical procedures relating to patient test results and the processing and issue of stem cell and immunotherapy products , with the support of the team You will be responsible for the support and training of new and less experienced staff You will be required to handle blood and tissue samples and operate a range of laboratory analysers and equipment
