NHSBT Tissue and Eye Services is the largest multi-tissue banking organisation in the UK and Europe. It is a significant leader in the development of national and international standards, policies and regulation in the field.
NHSBT Tissue and Eye Services has Retrieval teams based in Colindale, Bristol, Barnsley and Liverpool and has a multi tissue processing facility in Liverpool and Eye Bank in Bristol.
You will lead a committed and professional multiskilled team to meet the deceased retrieval demand. You will become part of a proactive professional team and learn new skills.
NHSBT Tissue and Eye Services is a fast moving and variable environment, this role is essential in the donation of tissues from deceased donors that will directly contribute to the saving and improving of patients lives.
You will be a role model for Service Excellence leading service improvement using your specialist expertise.

Main duties of the job
In this role you will be required to manage all aspects of the tissue retrieval service within a designated area on behalf of the National Retrieval Manager, planning the departmental work to maintain an efficient and robust retrieval service. Your responsibilities will include:
Managing the running of the department and retrieval team in all aspects of tissue retrieval to the required quality standards, compliance and regulations.
Line managing a team including training and development
On a planned rota, acting as the oncall Retrieval Team Manager nationally and the communication link between the National Referral Centre and the Retrieval teams, escalating complex cases to the oncall Tissue and Eye Services Duty Manager as required
Collating accurate performance indicator statistics and implement corrective action if required.
Negotiating and consulting on a wide range of complex and potentially stressful topics, to motivate, persuade and encourage internal / external stakeholders.
Working in partnership with other sectors ensuring continuity and the safe retrieval of tissues.
You will be required to travel and spend time away from your base, which may involve working irregular hours and overnight stays with prior notice. You will also be expected to participate in a 7-day working rota that may include evenings, weekends, and public holidays.

- Degree in Biological Science disciple, or equivalent qualification PLUS equivalent level of highly developed post registration / qualification specialist knowledge gained through formal training and extensive work experience in tissue, organ or blood banking.
- Basic Management qualification or attendance at short training courses
- Possess a valid driving licence, allowing you to drive in the UK
- Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
