Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious team who are transforming the digital and technology services that support OTDT. As the Technical Lead for the Product Centre you will be part of the senior leadership team responsible for designing, developing and delivering innovative solutions that will support the OTDT Directorate in saving and improving peoples lives. You will be responsible for leading the definition and implementation of Digital development standards, policies and strategies and drive continuous improvement of our products and ways of working. You will be leading and mentoring a team of skilled developers and testers working on a variety of technologies including: Oracle, APEX, .NET, Java, Python, Selenium, Azure, DevOps, and OCI. You will work with the Solutions Architect to lead on research and development to ensure NHSBT is able to take advantage of the latest technology and best practice available in the Digital industry. This varied hybrid role will be a mixture of home working and NHSBT centre base working, giving you the opportunity to engage directly with the highly skilled and passionate team, and support the Product Team in defining and delivering the Product Roadmap. Reporting directly to the Head of Product Centre, you will work with them to further shape and grow the capabilities of the Product Centre, manage suppliers and deputise for the Head of Product Centre assuming full delegated powers of authority when required.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be responsible for the effective technical and technology decisions of complex, high-risk and high-profile digital products and services. Your responsibilities will include: Acting as a leader for the development team leads and as the main point of escalation of any technical issues Structuring the Product Centre team with the appropriate levels of expertise, managing the recruitment process of internal recruitment and use of external consultancies Ensuring the effective development, co-ordination and motivation of a team of highly skilled and technical Developers, setting the framework to encourage world-class digital services Working closely with Delivery Managers, Product Managers and Service Managers to help accurately estimate and plan development sprints and projects Continually driving the technical product strategy and execution across the organisation this will involve formulating long-term plans and strategy for testing across systems and products Designing, developing, testing, deploying, managing, maintaining and supporting Digital services, application software and database services across NHSBT Initiating and developing a programme of research and development to ensure NHSBT is able to take advantage of latest technology and best practice available in the Digital industry.

  • MSc in Computer Science (or related discipline) or significant industrial experience equivalent to Masters level
  • Extensive training in software development tools and methodologies and in database technologies, either Oracle or SQL Server

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of the design, development, management and maintenance of information systems across an organisation
  • Advanced knowledge and substantial proven experience in software development, with experience in the majority of :
  • C#, .NET, Visual Studio, HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, XML, XSD, JSON
