Advanced Cell Therapies Manager

NHS Blood and Transplant

The closing date is 21 July 2024

Job summary

NHSBT is developing a range of novel cell and gene therapies through clinical trials in collaboration with commercial and academic partners. This role offers the ideal candidate a great opportunity to use their extensive knowledge and experience to oversee the manufacture and delivery of these new therapies across several sites for the benefit of patients.

This new national post reflects the increasing activity of NHSBT in developing and delivering new cell therapies such as CAR-T cells under MHRA MIA(IMP) license in partnership with a range of sponsors and customers. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Cellular and Molecular Therapies (CMT), the post holder will work closely with senior Heads of Manufacturing units, quality assurance colleagues and others to ensure products are developed and delivered to meet financial, contractual, and regulatory requirements. The development of novel cell and gene therapies is an exciting and expanding area of medicine and this position offers the opportunity to deliver these therapies through clinical trial directly within the NHS.

This will be a Hybrid working role based at one of the NHSBT centres such as Birmingham, Bristol, Barnsley, Liverpool, or Oxford. However, we will consider other NHSBT centres and ask that you raise any requests at interview.

Main duties of the job

This role will oversee the development and delivery of a broad and evolving portfolio of Advanced Cell Therapies across multiple Advanced Cell Therapy Units, always meeting challenging customer and regulatory requirements. Your responsibilities include:

  • Taking national responsibility for the delivery of advanced cell therapy manufacturing across multiple sites in line with agreed business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Working with regional team Heads and quality assurance colleagues to navigate the interface between quality assurance and science and technology whilst maintaining close interactions with external customers and partners.
  • Supporting and delivering operational strategies which build on CMTs core competencies to position NHSBT as a provider of choice for advanced cell therapies to UK and international customers.
  • Providing scientific and regulatory knowledge to help continuously develop CMTs workforce, ensuring NHSBT is at the cutting edge of technological innovation.
  • Developing strong credible relationships with key stakeholders including academic, commercial, NHS, regulatory and grant-awarding organisations.
  • Working closely with the Heads of Cell Therapy Units, the Head of CBC (Molecular Therapies), the National Operations Manager and the Head of Business Development to deliver agreed projects on time and in budget.
