Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Transfusion 2024 (T2024) programme team.

The Transfusion 2024 strategic plan outlined key priorities to improve clinical and laboratory transfusion practice, NHSBT has commenced a programme of change to deliver specific objectives. Incorporated into the plan is the requirement for continued research, innovation and translation into practice.

This senior post will play a key role in leading the establishment of a Transfusion Research Network with the aims of increasing hospital clinical and laboratory participation in transfusion research. We are looking for an ambitious leader who has experience of delivering change and will use their transfusion and research expertise to plan improvements that will make a difference to patient care.

You will use your excellent communication skills to work closely with clinical and scientific leaders and will include close collaboration with patient groups. This is an opportunity to work across national frameworks, gaining strategic experience in a programme that will expand your knowledge and skills.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will lead the workplan for theT2024 Transfusion Research deliverable and will establish and develop a Transfusion Research Network (TRN) with the aims of increasing hospital clinical and laboratory participation in transfusion research. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Being the key contact for the TRN, consulting and working with key stakeholders, national groups, and members regarding TRN activities and projects.
  • Developing and implementing policies and service developments that improve transfusion research activity.
  • Leading the day-to-day running and strategic development of the TRN new network aiming to expediting the delivery of transfusion trials, providing evidence for improving outcomes and addressing health inequalities.
  • Managing and finalising the delivery and Key Performance Indicators of the TRN Work Plan, ensuring alignment with the aims of the Executive Group.
  • Providing transformational leadership and change management in preparing clinical and scientific staff to work in new ways, embracing innovation and technology including alternative settings.
  • Leading designated training days and conferences, providing engaging leadership to elicit audience participation. Providing direct line management to role and support to other members of the TRN network.

Essential

  • Masters OR equivalent demonstrable knowledge and experience at Masters level.
  • Registered Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration (NMC) which must be maintained. OR Registered Clinical or Biomedical Scientist on the Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC) which must be maintained.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).

Experience

Essential

  • Experience as a senior nurse in a setting in which blood transfusion plays a role in treatment or as a senior biomedical scientist in a transfusion laboratory.
  • Experience of producing clinical and/or scientific material and ability to present it verbally and in writing.
  • Understand transfusion issues within hospitals and the challenges facing the transfusion environment.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of research professionals.
  • Experienced in managing projects and delivering change.
  • Experience of budget management.
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
