Job summary
NHSBT Pathology provides diagnostic services to hospitals, saving and improving ca 130,000 lives per year, also supporting NHSBT operations with donor testing, through a team of ca 485 scientific and support staff.
In this role you would play a critical role, as a subject matter expert, and lead, on service development and modernisation of our unique nationwide laboratory operations, supporting patients transfusion and transplantation.
We have an ambitious strategy to automate and reduce the number of paper-based processes by using new technologies with an aim to improve patient care, quality of services and value for money. As a lead specialist in Pathology, you would be a core member of the team driving this modernisation strategic projects in our specialist laboratories.
You will own a number of process and product development lifecycles from the discovery phase through analysis, adoption, development, implementation and post implementation monitoring, delivering projects on time and to budget, operating independently but with support and guidance.
Main duties of the job
In this role within Pathology's Technical & Scientific Development, you will act as a subject matter expert, and lead on service and product development, with an initial focus on modernisation projects such as the ART Programme (Automatic Results Transfer). Your responsibilities:
- Evaluating and generating innovative ideas, supporting, and contributing to the development of strategy and improved service delivery.
- Leading on a range of programmes and implementation projects addressing standardisation, new ways of working, introduction of new technology, service and product development and improved performance.
- Providing expert advice on standards and specifications for systems, processes, consumables, and equipment and leading on evaluation and procurement processes.
- Maintaining a thorough working knowledge of practices, procurement, licensing, and regulatory requirements (IVDR, UK MDR, ISO15189) in all areas associated within Pathology.
- Deputising for Head of Department as required.
