Job summary
Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) is a function where patients with a range of blood disorders are treated and special donations are collected. Work undertaken by this function includes various types of therapeutic apheresis procedures e.g. plasma and red cell exchange and assessment of fitness of potential stem cell donors. The strategic aim is for TAS to become the preferred provider and supplier of choice for therapeutic apheresis services in the NHS. This post will have a key role in positioning TAS as the national NHS Go To supplier for apheresis therapies. Whilst the TAS service has grown significantly over the last few years, there is still so much more to do to improve the equity of access to specialised therapies across England. In your role you will be able to contribute directly to the saving and improving of lives as part of a truly committed multi-disciplinary national team.
Main duties of the job
Therapeutic Apheresis Services (TAS) is a function within the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) where patients with a range of disorders are treated and special donations are collected. In this role you will be a member of the TAS Senior Management Team and work with its members to lead and continually improve service delivery to achieve our ambition to be the NHS provider of choice. Your responsibilities will include :- Leading on significant development projects and business plan initiatives, setting and planning new business targets and measuring and reporting on progress. Leading on a range of programmes/projects addressing standardisation, new ways of working, introduction of new technology, service development and improved performance through benchmarking with other providers. Working with NHSBT Project Managers and external stakeholders e.g. NHS Specialist Commissioners to secure funding for new treatments Covering / deputising for the Head of Service Development during periods of leave or prolonged absence. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.
