Job summary

Do you have a passion for data storytelling and understanding customer behaviour? Would you like to lead a team of three data analysts to help support life-saving and life-enhancing services to the NHS? Then this role might be for you.

Working in a small but dynamic team you use your data analysis skills and knowledge of customer behaviour to provide the insight to help improve the organisations understanding of our donors. Your insights will drive improvements to the donor experience across the board from recruitment to retention, from campaign activity to the location of our blood donation sessions. This insight will ensure that NHSBT has a sufficient number of donors to meet the NHSs needs both now and in the future.

As an Insight or Data Analysis expert you will excel at problem solving, have a passionate interest in donor/customer behaviour and through data help carve new opportunities and future strategies. With an inquisitive mindset, data storytelling must be at the heart of everything you do. The work is varied and can involve profiling and segmenting donors, evaluation marking, predicting the impact of a future event of blood stocks or answering wicked questions.

You will undertake an extensive induction and training programme and receive ongoing development to support you in your role and in achieving your future career ambitions.

The successful candidate may be based at any of our main centres in England, by agreement.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be supporting the Head of Insight and Research in providing non-medical research & analytical support to inform and influence decisions on strategy and its implementation in donor facing functions. Your responsibilities will include:

Developing the donor and customer-facing research programmes and for running a programme of regular reporting and analysis across all research areas.

Ensuring the delivery of Insight and Research business objectives by leading the research & analysis project programme and the work of Insight Analysts.

Develop and lead a programme of regular routine reporting, ensuring that reports are produced to specification and on time, and are distributed to relevant managers and staff throughout the organisation.

Develop and implement predictive, statistical & geographical models that will guide both long term policy and day-to-day decision making, in the areas of session planning / collection and support resource allocation, hospital demand and stock.

To deputise for the Head of Insight and Research as necessary You may be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Essential

  • Experience of commissioning analysis and research (quantitative & qualitative) in a consumer area and working with operational teams to deploy the results
  • Significant experience of project-managing data analysis and market research projects, including the co-ordination of research teams.
  • Significant work experience in a quantitative analytical role.
  • A sound working knowledge of data analysis techniques including: manipulation of relational data; multivariate statistical modelling; statistical testing; spatial analysis; time-series analysis.
  • Significant hands-on experience of programming/coding in SAS, R, Python or similar packages.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject which includes an element of quantitative or statistical analysis or equivalent experience.
  • Postgraduate or professional qualification (Level 7) in an applied research or analysis discipline (e.g. Operational research; market research; psychology; geography) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)
