Job summary
This is a great opportunity to act as a Consultant Clinical Scientist in Transfusion Science. At NHSBT you will be a member of the Red Cell Immunohematology (RCI) senior management team to ensure safe and clinically effective use of red cells and other blood components. You will provide scientific and expert advice to internal and external customers to NHSBT. Your knowledge and experience will ensure that the NHSBT will remains a centre of excellence in transfusion science.
Your organisational and leadership skills will ensure the transfusion service continues to deliver a cost effective and responsive service to patients and users of the service. NHSBT will offer training and development opportunities to maintain and enhance your personal development.
Main duties of the job
Based at Red Cell Immunohaematology (RCI), you will be responsible for the integrity of the scientific and technical knowledge base applicable to transfusion and transplantation, and its integration into practice, at a level comparable to that of a consultant medic. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing expert advice on a range of highly specialist services to own and other professions in specialist area of activity both within core hours and out-of-hours as part of the patient-facing consultant on-call rota.
- Working alongside the Head of Function and as part of the RCI Senior Management Team (SMT) to provide strategic direction and expert professional leadership.
- Participating in the ongoing development and innovation of service practice using established continuous improvement methodologies.
- Providing teaching and training in area of specialist expertise to scientific and medical staff / students / members of the public.
- Undertaking research, clinical audit and innovation in the specialist field, resulting in national/international impact and continuous improvement in clinical practice.
- Undertaking data/information gathering, chairing RCAs, signing off any remedial actions, and providing clinical oversight and input, within the organisation and at a national level.
- Undertaking line management of employees in the HSST programme in due course.
