Assistant Director - Business Development (CAGT)

Job summary

The post-holder will have full responsibility for business development across the Cell, Apheresis and Gene Therapy function (CAGT). They will research and develop new business and service opportunities, promote service integration across the directorate and grow CAGTs capabilities and service offerings. CAGT covers a wide variety of activities including contract GMP grade manufacture of cell and gene therapy products, stem cell processing for haemopoietic stem cell transplants, management of the British Bone Marrow Registry and NHS Cord Blood Bank, and Therapeutic Apheresis Services, including stem and immune cell harvests, red cell exchange and plasma exchange. As such the post holder will have to work across boundaries and interact with multiple stakeholders internally and externally to CAGT.

This role will provide effective and highly visible leadership within CAGT and across NHSBT. The post holder will be the expert commercial lead for CAGT and be accountable for income targets and service growth of multiple services (aligned to NHSBT corporate, service line and functional strategies). This will include the planning and delivery of a defined CAGT business wide development plan and development of business unit income budgets and pricing plans.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will provide effective and highly visible leadership and have full responsibility for business development across the CAGT function. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching and developing new opportunities, promoting service integration across the multiple services within the directorate and growing CAGTs capabilities and service offerings
  • Being accountable for income targets across CAGT and planning and delivering a CAGT-wide business development strategy.
  • Collaborating with the CAGT Management Team, plus stakeholders across NHSBT and elsewhere to successfully lead delivery of ambitious growth across CAGTs services.
  • Engaging with external stakeholders to promote and grow CAGTs business and service offerings.
  • Being responsible for high-profile negotiations involving multiple stakeholders internally and externally.
  • Developing and implementing processes to ensure effective identification, onboarding and delivery of new business/service opportunities and initiatives.
  • Maintaining technical understanding of the CAGT field and extensive knowledge of the commercial and healthcare landscape both in the UK and internationally.
