Job summary

The successful candidates will join a dynamic team and contribute to projects aimed at the development and implementation of new diagnostic tests in HLA, immunogenetics and transplantation, using the latest genomic technologies. Applicants should possess a relevant science degree, e.g. molecular biology, human genetics or equivalent. Experience of working in a Research & Development environment and a good working knowledge of DNA based techniques such as PCR or next generation sequencing would be beneficial. We have one permanent and one fixed term contract available. The fixed term post is for a duration of 2 years.

Main duties of the job

Working within a modern laboratory environment you will be operating some of the latest laboratory analysers and testing systems to produce accurate and timely test results. Tests include molecular based assays, such as real-time PCR and next generation sequencing. Your responsibilities will include: You will be required to perform and interpret a wide range of specialist scientific and assist in the development of technical procedures and tests relating to the issue of results or blood/tissue products. You will be required to conduct automated and manual investigations in an R&D laboratory, operating a range of complex and routine equipment, applying scientific, theoretical and practical knowledge expected of a Healthcare Scientist. You will be required to provide cover in times of operational difficulty, with reasonable notice. Additional responsibilities include supporting other laboratory activities such as sample archiving and retrieval, preparation of reagents and maintenance of equipment. You will also be required to train other staff in the relevant techniques.
