Job summary

As a member of our Service and Resource team, you will be instrumental in helping to streamline our Logistics operation, ensuring our team have the right technology and processes to deliver blood products as effectively as possible. By developing and delivering plans to improve our Key Performance Indicators, your work will be helping to save and improves lives.

We work flexibly and supportively as a professional team, developing solutions to distribution problems in collaboration with other departments. We aim to continuously improve the supply chain thereby improving customer satisfaction and maximising value.

The team is responsible for evaluating our Logistics operation from a birds eye view, managing contracts with third-party suppliers to support our internal operation whilst making sure the service that we offer to hospitals is as efficient as possible. You will have the opportunity to evaluate every aspect of how we work, from the features we have and use in our Transport Management System to the services we offer to other departments and end users.

This role combines problem-solving and critical thinking to address real world challenges, and with the time to work closely with colleagues, you will have the opportunity to see that your solutions are effectively delivered.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be accountable for planning and implementation of service delivery and business development initiatives. Your responsibilities will include:

Managing the NHS England transport contract, working closely with internal and external stakeholders

Continual monitoring and review of Logistics performance against KPIs, working with internal teams to deliver improvements

Co-ordinating with Transport Operations and other stakeholders on developments to Transport Management System

Working in partnership with Support Lead - Process on solution development and output

Working with NHSBT wide directorates on planning and implementing service improvement initiatives and change programmes, including compliance reports

Developing, planning, implementing and delivering training/development packages and workshops to measurably improve performance against Logistics KPIs. Training will be delivered cross directorate where other departments activity relates to Logistics processes

Working as a member of the Service Development & Resource team in delivering strategic benefits including income generating and new business projects

Acting as subject matter expert in logistics business development

Working at senior management level to liaise with Manufacturing & Logistics and other directorates on planning and implementing development programmes

  • Experience of leading, developing and motivating a team
  • Highly developed expertise in the contributing and producing balanced scorecards and key performance indicators, including associated data sourcing, performance reporting and target setting
  • Experience in implementing short, medium and long term plans
  • Thorough knowledge of logistics/supply chain process and key challenges
  • Knowledge of lean implementation, including management of rapid improvement events
  • Experience of theoretical and practical knowledge and expertise in Business Development
  • Leadership and management experience
