Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant for our Norwich Clinic. To succeed you must have excellent communication skills and a flexible, proactive approach to delivering first class diagnostic services and patient care. The post holder will work closely with Sonographers and Radiologists, supporting them with patients during their clinics. Training is provided and further career development opportunities throughout the company. This role is fixed term with the potential to become permanent.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensuring the smooth running of clinics
  • Assisting in the care and comfort of patients
  • Assisting Sonographers and Radiologists during examinations
  • Ensuring the clinical room is prepared prior to the start of clinical sessions
  • Using the patient information systems (Soliton/PACS)
  • Monitoring and maintaining adequate stock levels and ordering supplies of linen, gowns and consumables
  • Ensure patients have access to a chaperone at all times
  • Uphold Global Diagnostics professional standards policy
  • Uphold data protection and patient confidentiality at all times

Job responsibilities

Job Purpose:

The Health Care Assistant will work under the direct supervision of the clinical lead and undertake tasks and duties delegated by the operational lead and or clinical lead.

They will work collaboratively with the diagnostics multi-disciplinary team to maintain a high standard of care under the direction of the operational manager, following the Company's policies and procedures at all times.

Accountabilities:

  • Maintain a high standard of care applying evidence-based practice
  • Assist medical/diagnostic personnel in the care of patients to include treatment, preventative care and patient education
  • Undertake, record and follow guidelines for tasks for which appropriate training has been received
  • Following appropriate training, undertake the collection, storage and dispatch of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears etc and ensure the cleanliness of any equipment used
  • Perform any investigatory procedures requested by the consulting clinicians
  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, the multi-disciplinary team and significant others
  • Communicate with patients, clients and relatives on emotional and sensitive issues
  • Ensure the safe custody, supply and administration of drugs and therapeutic substances in accordance with Healthshares policy
  • Participate in clinical audit or reviews of patient care, as required
  • Participate in benchmarking activity in the clinical area
  • Act as the patient's advocate
  • Promptly deal with equipment failure in accordance with Healthshares procedure
  • Demonstrate competency and teach others about the safe and effective use of equipment in the clinical area
  • Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded on the clinical computer system as appropriate
  • Ensure accurate completion of all necessary documentation associated with patient health care and registration with the Clinic

  • Be efficient in managing emergency situations including directing other members of the multi-disciplinary team

  • Ensure stock items under are ordered and available in all consulting and clinical rooms and assist with the correct management and stock control of clinical drugs under the direction of qualified nursing staff
  • Attend and participate in Clinic meetings as required.
  • To actively participate in the NVQ process, mandatory training and other additional training relevant to the role
  • To manage own workload with limited supervision
  • Manage staff rosters if appropriate in the absence of the operational manager/clinical lead
  • Be a First Aid Representative for the Clinic

Provide treatment services including but not limited to:

    • MRI and X-Ray assistance
    • Measuring and recording blood pressure and pulse
    • Height/weight/Body Mass Index measuring and recording
    • Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by a clinician, when required
    • Provide nursing treatments to patients in participation with consulting clinicians or independently to agreed protocols
    • Assisting with minor out-patient surgical procedures
    • Assist Consultant Radiologist with US and CT guided therapeutic joint injections
    • Assist trained professionals with health screening programmes
    • Assist with the training of junior staff

                    • Maintain continued professional development as deemed useful or necessary for professional development and in accordance with professional registration requirement
                    • Take ownership for development and learning of skills and knowledge
