A friendly and supportive team, working from a newly extended and refurbished premises. We are situated in the Heath, a lovely part of Cardiff, only 3 miles away from the City Centre and close to excellent schools and parks. We serve a population of approximately 7,800 patients. The team consists of 4 Partners and 2 Sessional GPs, 3 practice nurses, 1 HCA and a full complement of highly experienced admin support staff.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Job Summary:

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients as well as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Chronic Disease Management for Diabetes, Asthma, Hypertension and COPD

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by GPs.

  • Basic wound care / ulcer care

  • Administering child vaccines in line with guidelines

  • Removal of Sutures

  • Urinalysis

  • ECGs

  • Venepuncture

  • Blood pressure measurements

  • Routine immunisations

  • Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician

  • Requesting basic pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs

  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate

Other tasks including:

  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice

  • At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records

  • A duty to advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks

  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post.

  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality.

  • Ability to use own judgment, resourcefulness and common sense, but also a knowledge of when to seek assistance.

  • Undertaking periodic infection control training
