Nant Dowlais Health Centre is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive team for 4 sessions a week on a 6 month fixed-term contract,. A long term locum position may be considered, however a fixed term salaried contract is preferable. There is potential to transition into a permanent position post.
We are a well-established, forward-thinking practice supporting a 10,000 patient list, located in Cwmbran which is within 5 miles of the M4 corridor with excellent transport links to Cardiff and Bristol.
This is an excellent opportunity for a GP looking for a fulfilling role with flexibility, strong clinical MDT support, and the chance to become a long-term member of our thriving practice at this exciting and changing time in General Practice.
Main duties of the job
Clinical responsibilities:
In accordance with the practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols
Providing counselling and health education
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
Collecting data for audit purposes
Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate
In general, the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

The successful candidate will have a positive approach and be a team player who embraces the model of the GP as Primary Care Consultant leading a team of extended role practitioners to deliver high quality healthcare. We are an approved GP Specialty Training Practice with a strong focus on education for both GP registrars and medical students.
