Western Vale Family Practice is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive team for 7 sessions a week on a 912 month fixed-term contract (to cover maternity leave from September 2025), with the potential to transition into a permanent position in Spring 2026.
We are a well-established, forward-thinking practice supporting a diverse patient population in a semi-rural setting.
This is an excellent opportunity for a GP looking for a fulfilling role with flexibility, strong clinical MDT support, and the chance to become a long-term member of our thriving practice.
Main duties of the job
To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the contract.
Furthermore, the post holder will adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.

The team at Western Vale Family Practice are a friendly caring team who are proud to offer high standards of patient-centred healthcare.
We provide healthcare to a patient population of over 13,500+ patients across the Western Vale of Glamorgan. We also undertake the vocational training of General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Medical Students.
Our main site, which is also our administration centre, is in the purpose- developed Health Centre in Cowbridge, and we have branch surgeries in Llantwit Major Health Centre and St Athan.
We offer a range of NHS and Private services in the Practice via our multidisciplinary and highly skilled team. We currently have five GP Partners, three Salaried GPs, two Practice Pharmacists and a Cluster Pharmacist, two Advanced Nurse Practitioners, four Practice Nurses, a Healthcare Support Worker and two Pharmacy Technicians . We also employ around 20 members of staff across Management, Administrative and Reception areas.

We won South Wales GP Practice of the Year 2023 following nomination by our patients and were finalists in two other categories.
We have recently moved to EMIS in March 2025.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Salaried GP. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
The delivery of highly effective medical care to the entitled population
The provision of services commensurate with the primary care contract
Generic prescribing adhering to local and national guidance
Effective management of long-term conditions
Processing of administration in a timely manner, including referrals, repeat prescription requests and other associated administrative tasks
On a rotational basis, undertake telephone triage and duty doctor roles
Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with good practice, policy and guidance
Work collaboratively, accepting an equal share of the practice workload
Adhere to best practice recommended through clinical guidelines, apthways and the audit process
Contribute to the successful implementation of continuous improvement and quality initiatives within the practice
Accept delegated responsibility for a specific area (or areas) of Practice development
Attend and contribute effectively to practice meetings as required
Contribute effective to the development and maintenance of the practice including clinical governance and training
Ensure compliance with the appraisal process
Prepare and complete the revalidation process
Commit to self-learning and instil an ethos of continuing professional development across the practice team
Support the training of GP registrars, medical students and Foundation Pharmacists
Support the partners in achieving the strategic aims of the practice, making recommendations to enhance income and reduce expenditure
Review and always adhere to practice protocols and policies
Encourage collaborative working, liaising with all staff regularly, always promoting a culture of continuous improvement
