An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary to join our friendly primary care practice on a part time basis. To provide general secretarial support to the Practice Manager, Doctors and Health Professionals involving word processing and audio typing skills with general clerical work.

Main duties of the job

Workflow administration for all clinical correspondence

Referrals via Clinical Systems & WCCG

Effective READ Coding

Notes summarising

Completing Subject Access Requests (SARS)

Completing Private Requests

We are based in the heart of Newport and work within the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. We offer the majority of the enhanced services available. We have 20000 patients with 6 Partners and 8 Salaried GPs. Our Team includes Practice manager and 2 deputy managers, 2 GPSTs, medical students 2 specialist nurse practitioners (independent prescribers) 12 highly trained practice nurses (including a prescriber) Nurse led chronic disease management clinics Nurse led triage for routine appointments 1 highly trained HCA, 2 phlebotomist 3 pharmacists (and 1 health board pharmacist) 1 mental health nurse (independent prescriber) Psychological well-being practitioner for low level mental health Excellent administrative team with dedicated prescription team Our Structure EMIS Web, Docman, AccuRx Allocated duty and home visit GPs Routine clinic mix of booked F2F and telephone

Job responsibilities

JOB TITLE: MEDICAL SECRETARY

REPORTS TO: PRACTICE MANAGER

HOURS: 30 hours per week.

Job Summary:

To provide general secretarial support to the Practice Manager, Doctors and Health Professionals involving word processing and audio typing skills with general clerical work over two sites.

Job Responsibilities:

To provide an efficient audio, copy typing and work processing service for GPs and Health Professionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, reports, patient referrals, occupational health reports, minutes, memorandums, etc in an accurate and quality manner.

To assist the Practice Manager with all clerical and administrative duties.

To establish and maintain filing and administrative systems so that written or computer information is easily accessible and secure.

To receive incoming and initiate outgoing telephone calls in order to facilitate timely and appropriate communications with others, taking messages and dealing with appropriate queries.

To maintain the computer clinic system in an accurate and secure manner.

To assist with the gathering of statistics and information when required.

To provide cover for members of the secretarial team during periods of sickness and annual leave.

To receive and dispatch mail.
