Job summary

This is an opportunity to work in Salaried role in a long-established GP surgery in Newcastle Emlyn. We are looking for a Salaried GP to join our team who can offer a mix of face-to-face and remote consultations with minimal Home visits for 4 sessions a week Thursday and Friday. The practice uses EMIS Web and e-Consults. There is opportunity for training and development in areas of special interest.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

  • In accordance with the Practice timetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion

  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

  • In consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health

  • Providing counselling and health education

  • Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate

  • Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards Collecting data for audit purposes

  • Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions (avoiding hand-written prescriptions whenever possible)

  • Prescribing in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary (or generically) when clinically appropriate

  • The post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

About us

Meddygfa Emlyn is a friendly Practice located in the rural area of Newcastle Emlyn. We are a partnership of five doctors together with 3 salaried doctors, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, a Practice Pharmacist and a full health care team of practice nurses, health care assistants and ample administrative team (receptionists, secretaries and prescription clerks).We promote a supportive working environment with regular coffee and lunch breaks together.

Meddygfa Emlyn provides Primary Care Services to just under 10,000 patients across Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire. We are a teaching practice for GP trainees, Cardiff Medical Students and Pharmacy students. We work closely with in-house community nurses, health visitors, midwifes and other allied professions.

We are looking for a Salaried GP to join our team who can offer a mix of face-to-face and remote consultations with minimal home visits for 4 sessions a week on a Thursday and Friday. The successful applicant will be expected to cover 1 on-call evening every 2 weeks, on other days the afternoon clinic is booked until 4pm. Morning and afternoon clinics are run on a 12 minute appointments with 15 appointments in the morning and 10 appointments in the afternoon (mix of face-to-face and telephone consultations.) The practice uses EMIS Web and e-Consults. There is opportunity for training and development in areas of special interest.
