Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Receptionist to join our thriving practice on a part time basis. Our friendly team of healthcare professionals and administrative staff operate from 2 sites (Risca/Cwmfelinfach) providing high quality care to our patients. Experience of general practice and EMIS would be preferable but not essential as training will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Offer general assistance to the whole practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone

Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way

Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice, including the provision of clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team

Facilitate effective communication between patients, members of the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies

  • Opening up/locking up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols

  • Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system

  • Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations, and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional

  • Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail

  • Taking messages and passing on information

  • Filing and retrieving paperwork

  • Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines

  • Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures

  • Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers

About us

Risca Surgery is in Caerphilly Borough County. The Practice is part of the Risca Surgery and North Celynen Partnership. We are a Teaching Practice taking in Registrars, Medical Students and Academy Staff. We have a full primary health care team which includes Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurse Manager, experienced nurses, highly qualified Health Care Assistants as well as a highly experienced Managerial and Administrative Team. We work in purpose built, modern surgeries, Risca and Cwmfelinfach. Our other Practice is in Crumlin. We have a large Practice population across the two sites: 13,000 Patients in Risca Surgery and 9,400 in North Celynen Practice. We are consistently high achievers. We offer patients core general medical services and provide a variety of enhanced series such as minor surgery. We work closely with District Nurses, Health Visitors and Palliative Care teams.
