Main duties of the job

In acute NHS inpatient settings, delivering autonomous occupational therapy services that include comprehensive assessment, evidence-based treatment, and discharge planning for adults with a range of physical, cognitive, and behavioural impairments. To manage complex cases across medical, elderly, surgical, and emergency departments, with a strong focus on recommending effective therapeutic interventions. To be proficient in equipment provision to support functional independence and safe discharge, while also maintaining accurate documentation using various IT systems.

  • Provide specialist advice and second opinions within Occupational Therapy, supporting both internal colleagues and external professionals in managing complex cases.
  • Conduct specialist assessments and recommend therapeutic interventions, including the provision of equipment and minor environmental adaptations.
  • Develop and implement tailored assessment and treatment plans for patients with highly complex conditions, using advanced analytical and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Prepare comprehensive summaries outlining treatment recommendations, multidisciplinary collaboration, and community service options to support effective discharge planning.
  • Create and maintain educational resources related to Occupational Therapy for use by patients, carers, visitors, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Apply therapeutic manual handling techniques to support patients physical and sensory rehabilitation needs.

  • BSc or MSC in Occupational Therapy.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • Acute NHS inpatient experience with SystemOne Knowledge.
