Job summary

NHSP are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with the required clinical knowledge and skills to work independently with patients, many of whom have complex communication and swallowing difficulties. A minimum of 18 months experience with adults with acquired neurological disorders is essential. Experience of community working is preferred.

The friendly team is based in Woking Community Hospital and works across the Northwest Surrey area treating adults with acquired neurological conditions such as stroke, motor neurone disease, Parkinsons disease and dementia. Patients are seen in a variety of locations including outpatient clinics, community ward and domiciliary settings. There is also a community outpatient FEES service.

Ideally, we are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to see patients in domiciliary or outpatient settings, so a car driver is desirable, but the base is located a short walk from Woking train station which is on the mainline to/from London. The team can also consider hybrid working with follow up telehealth appointments.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be required to:

Evaluate patients to identify speech, language, voice, fluency and swallowing disorders

Develop treatment plans based on assessment results and patient needs in order to improve speech, language the communication skills

Implement techniques to enhance articulation, fluency, voice quality and language comprehension and expression

Work with patients experiencing dysphagia to improve their ability to safely swallow food and liquids
