Hours: 37.5 hours (minimum of 3 days on site a week)

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS trust plays a huge part in west Essex and east and north Hertfordshire's way of life.

The trust runs a busy hospital,The Princess Alexandra Hospital and provides services at St. Margaret's Hospital and Herts and Essex Hospital. Together serve a population of around 350,000 people.

Main duties of the job

Will lead, develop and manage all corporate communications, protecting and enhancing the Trusts reputation.

Together with the Director of People the postholder will lead on the development and delivery of the Trusts Communications Strategy, ensuring the Trust is communicating in a timely, effective and accessible way via the relevant channels and through the best possible forums.

Manage the communications team and ensure excellent professional practice is adopted and maintained. Whilst guided by general health, organisational or national policies, the post holder will need to establish the way in which these should be interpreted for the communications function, with freedom to initiate action as appropriate.

Required to engage with high level discussions and processes and to work to resolve complex problems.

  • Educated to masters degree level in relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • Significant experience of working at a senior level within a complex organisation
  • Significant specialist skills in communications, marketing or journalism
  • Demonstrable experience of leading service user/involvement projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the health care environment
  • Highly specialised knowledge of marketing and communications techniques and best practice
