Main duties of the job

  • Provide professional leadership and management of all aspects of dispensary services for all staff members who work within the dispensary environment. This includes pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians, trainee pharmacists and support workers.
  • Be responsible for stock management and financial control of costs within the dispensary service, including maintaining appropriate and efficient staffing levels, and reducing waste through the avoidable expiration of medicine and use of resources.
  • Responsible as line manager to manage staff in the dispensaries on a daily basis, including recruitment, induction, appraisal, attendance management, performance review and management, discipline and grievance issues, work and annual leave allocation.
  • Ensure stock levels reflect patient needs, thus contributing to the management of the drugs budget and Trust resources.
  • Ensure that appropriate training is provided for all staff working in the dispensary and training records are maintained and available when required.

Job responsibilities

Ensure a safe, high quality patient centred dispensary service.

Be the first line of communication for dispensary based technical team, effectively disseminating information from the Trust and Senior Pharmacy Leadership Team (SPLT) ensuring accurate, timely and constructive feedback.

Lead the planning, development, monitoring, audit, evaluation, and delivery of the dispensary service across the Trust. Ensure that working practices meet requirements of medicines legislation, professional, local, and national guidelines and implement changes, thereby ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive, high quality service.

Contribute to the strategic plan for dispensary operations including roles and skill mix of staffing, requirement and infrastructure of dispensaries and adopting new models of working including with EPMA systems.

Essential

  • Professional Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • ACPT accredited or willing to work towards qualification
  • NVQ3 in Pharmaceutical Services or Equivalent
  • Previous experience in hospital or community pharmacy
