About the Role:

We are seeking an autonomous and experienced Clinical Respiratory Physiologist to join our Cardio Respiratory Unit. As a Band 6 practitioner, you will be responsible for performing, interpreting, and reporting on a variety of advanced respiratory, sleep, and oesophageal investigations. This pivotal role involves working closely with patients, medical staff, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans.

You will have the opportunity to work independently and take ownership of your workload while being supported by a collaborative team of professionals. Key investigations youll be involved in include spirometry, static lung volume measurements, bronchial provocation testing, CPAP treatment assessments, and cardio-pulmonary exercise tests. Additionally, you will assess patients for long-term oxygen therapy and conduct various diagnostic tests related to sleep disorders and respiratory function.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform a range of specialised respiratory and sleep investigations, such as spirometry, body plethysmography, capillary blood gases, gas transfer diffusion tests, overnight oximetry, and cardio-pulmonary exercise tests.
  • Analyse test data using your expert knowledge to provide detailed diagnostic reports for patients' medical teams, contributing to their diagnosis and care plans.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, especially those with complex needs, to ensure understanding of procedures and to alleviate any concerns.
  • Take a lead role in managing clinical risk during tests, ensuring patient safety at all times.
  • Maintain and operate diagnostic equipment, following strict decontamination and safety protocols.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior staff and other health professionals in respiratory procedures, ensuring high clinical standards across the department.
