Job summary

We are looking for Ophthalmic Imaging Assistant to join the Theatres at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust FT. As a University Trust, you will have the chance to grow, develop and to be the best that you can be.

The post holder will undertake specialised measurements of the internal and external eye using a variety of equipment. Also, undertake specialised imaging of the eye, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) for clinical purposes.

Main duties of the job

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Delivery of specialised clinical diagnostic imaging procedures, which meet the highest possible standards with a very high degree of reproducibility.

Accurately enter patient data into each imaging platform, to ensure the images captured are for the correct patient.

In liaison with specialist Ophthalmic Consultants, Optometrists and Nursing staff, to ensure accurate diagnosis and care pathway for the patient.

A detailed understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the eye and a sound knowledge of ophthalmic conditions is a fundamental requirement of the ophthalmic assistant, thus ensuring the best representation of the condition is described in the imaging.

Should be conversant with Visual Fields and the pathology of disease so as to be able to undertake without supervision.

The testing of patients visual fields and visual acuity for diagnosis and treatment.

Assessment of patients ability to pass the DVLA (Driving Vehicle Licensing Authority) requirement for Visual Fields and Visual Acuity.

Experience

Essential

  • Should be proficient and confident in the imaging of patients Retina, Optic Discs and Corneas using: Optical Coherence Tomography (O.C.T.); Retinal Fundal Photography; Other ophthalmic imaging equipment as necessary.
  • Be expected to study for further qualifications in ophthalmic imaging/measurements and related work.
