Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Medicines Advice Pharmacist to join our dedicated Pharmacy team at Maudsley Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering expert medicines advice and clinical pharmacy services within a world-renowned mental health trust.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Expert Medicines Advice: Provide specialist medicines advice to healthcare professionals at all levels, including consultant psychiatrists, and to patients and carers both nationally and internationally.
  • Clinical Pharmacy Service: Deliver a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to designated wards, ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines.
  • Supervision and Training: Supervise and train trainee pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists rotating through the Medicines Advice service, contributing to their professional development.
  • Research and Development: Lead and coordinate research and clinical audits related to psychiatric medications and contribute to the development of national standards in medicines information.
  • Education: Organize and deliver lectures and seminars for medical, nursing, and pharmacy staff, as well as education sessions for patients and carers.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear, concise, and expert advice.
  • Experience in supervising and training pharmacists.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

  • Membership in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and the College of Mental Health Pharmacists (CMHP).
  • Postgraduate certificate in Clinical or Psychiatric Pharmacy.
  • Completion of the National MI training course.
  • Qualification as an Independent Prescriber.
